Film Chain

Production

So there is Development:Where the initial idea of the film is  created and screen play is written, also the financial business is taken care off :)

Pre-production:Auditions,Hiring and set building starts.

Production:This is where the actors come in they play their characters and raw elements like the background are recorded.

Post-Production:Where the actors take a backseat and leave it in the directors and editing teams hands.

Distribution:The final cut which is screened in cinema or released on home video.

      Superstar producers include

Here are a few film studios that produce the best and biggest films we know today :).

Kevin Tsujihara owns Warner brothers

Joe Brandt, Jack Cohn, Harry Cohn are the founders of Columbia Pictures

Brad Grey owns Paramount pictures

Depending on who owns which studio, diffrent films are made within them. For example Warner Brothers can make big budget films as they have the funding for it where as Fox searchlight pictures cant make massive big budget

Indie films...

'An independent film is a professional film production resulting in a feature film that is produced mostly or completely outside of the major film studio system'. So realistically this means an indie film!  An indie film made with the directors rules, with his location, his set and not the studios set.

What is film distribution?

Film distribution is the process of making a movie to be seen by an  audience. This is normally the task of a professional film distributor, who would determine the marketing strategy for the film, the media by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for viewing, and who may organise for when the film is to be released and by what type of media it is released by.

When a film is initially produced, a feature film is often shown to audiences in a movie theater.
The film may be exhibited directly to the public either through a movie theater or television
Nowadays films are distributed via Sky TV or online streaming such as netflix

What is a film festival?

film festival is an organised, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region.

Marketing
Sometimes called the press junket or film junket, film marketing is basically press conferences, advertising campaigns, merchandising  and interviews with the actors and directors.

Promotion in food:

Film Marketing:Interview with a member of the cast

Film Marketing/Promotion is displyed in the following ways:-------------->

Trailer:

Bus advert:

International Promotion

The Amazing Spider man 2 was a Summer Blockbuster and international film, therefore it was displayed in many countries worldwide. In this Indian trailer I watched the English langauge and text was dubbed in Hindi. There are also many other international trailers with a langauge dub. This is because the film also has to appeal to other non-English speaking audience.

Exhibition
Audiences can see films in:
IMAX 3D
2D
3D
DVD
HOME CINEMA

Box office is the term of which how much the film makes;its commercial success. The more money the film makes, the better the film is. Take Avengers Assemble  for examble made $1.518 billion and it was the best film ever :)
$1.518 billion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who earns the money?

Well It's not the movie theaters. Only about 1% of the ticket cost actually goes into a theater's coffers. They make their money from all that expensive popcorn. :)

Realisitcally the cineama gets 10% while 90% goes to the distributor/studio:D

  1. Ancillary markets
  2. Ancillary markets are non-theatrical markets for feature films, like home video, television, Pay Per View, VOD, Internet streaming, airlines and others
  3. In other words Tv films, Disney channel films ( HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL!)

.

The British Film institute is the lead organisation for film in the UK and they use lottery funds to support film production, distibution and educatoin. They develop the arts of film, television and the moving image throughout the United Kingdom .
